The Islamic Center opened in 1983. I visited the Islamic Center of Jonesboro and met several people there. Everyone was very friendly and I enjoyed my visit. The Islamic Center is located near campus, and a good portion of its regular visitors are ASU students, faculty, and staff. I met people from Saudi Arabia, Kenya, India, Malaysia, and Wichita Kansas there. They were observing Ramadan during the time I worked on this story. During Ramadan, all Muslims of good health must fast during the day. I was there for the breaking of fast. It starts with eating a few dates, sipping some water, and then a prayer session. After this prayer session, we all ate a full dinner. It was delicious. After this, I observed a group of about 30-40 men pray. When the worship was over, I visited with the Imam for a few hours. We had a great discussion about theology, and universal human values of truth and wisdom. I look forward to visiting there again with my Kuwait group from school.
